In spring of 2001, Katia entered Magic Sound Studio in Cairo and produced her own CD "Amar El Laily", overseeing every minute detail. The music was arranged by Ahmed Abdel Fattah Al Ferka Al Masaya, and composed by Gammal Ghahed especially for Katia. The disc features a full oriental routine, two different tabla solos by percussionist Safwat Sroor, a mizmar improvisation, beledy progression by Farag Khandee and Magdi Sobhi, as well as the Saidi folk song, "Ya Booy, Ya Booy" sung by well-known folkloric chanteuse Reda Sheha. Produced with dancers in mind, "Amar El Laily" is perfect to use for performing, or just to listen to. MUSICIANS :

To accompany the CD, Katia also produced her own video, also called "Amar El Laily". Shot on location in Cairo at the Pyramisa Hotel, the tape includes both oriental and folkloric performances as well as teaching segments which help identify some common Arabic rhythms like masmoudi kebbir, saraband, Tunisian, and ayoub. For a few of the numbers, Katia has spotlighted one of her dancers, the Saidi- born Attia. This unbelievable performer does a never before seen Saidi tahtib (men's stick dance) utilizing-and balancing- four sticks simultaneously. An integral part of Katia's show, Attia also accompanies her in Saidi and Alexandrian duets.

This CD and Video ombined take you on an enlightening journey on which you are given a real flavour of the culture of Egypt through music and dance.
