Proficient
in raks sharqi and beledy styles, Katia's specialties include folkloric
dances like the Alexandrian " Bint Behare" and Saidi assaya (Upper Egyptian
cane dance), as well as cabaret belly dance. Her riveting stage show incorporates
a sixteen-piece band, two singers, and four male dancers. Katia's impeccable
technique, incorporating high arabesques and deep back bends, combined
with her genuine feeling for Arabic music, propelled her swiftly to the
top. A golden- eyed beauty with cascades of tumbling tawny curls, when
Katia is on stage, her commanding presence makes it difficult for the
audience to take their eyes off her.
Katia has just completed a spring 2001 tour of The United States, sponsored
by Turquoise International. In addition to an extremely well-received
appearance at the International Conference of Oriental Dance, (where she
was featured with dance legend Nagwa Fouad), Katia performed at many venues
as well as conducting technique workshops and teaching private lessons.
